My First UDS - My First Post - My First Blog

This is the finished product on my first Ugly Drum Smoker. The design came from Jeanie @ http://cowgirlscountry.blogspot.com/. I highly recommend following her blog. She rocks.

The boys and I spent most of the first day drilling and burning the drum. We had a blast just standing by the fire and talking about life.

The next day, we cleaned up the drum and painted the inside with a high temp copper. We used the same color on the bolts, plugs and ring as you will see in later photos.

I bought the 22.5" Weber grates from Lowes since I didn't have time to make any from expanded metal. They worked very well, it was just a little expensive for three of them. Next time I will take my time and try to save a little money.

The photo below is with all three grates in the smoker. The top grate is only 4 inches from the top of the barrel so anything taller than that will call for the dome lid from the Kettle grill.

As you can see, the outside is a high temp flat black. The copper really stands out against the black. I don't like the plugs that I used for the top but I was pressed for time with Thanksgiving only a few days away. It will work for now.

Here it is al buttoned up and ready to cook. The thermometer is on order and will be added when it comes in. I will post the photos from my first smoke in a few days.
